Argentina And Chile: Dazzling Cities And Magical Landscapes
The long, narrow stretch of Chile extends along thousands of kilometres of Pacific Ocean coastline on the western extremity of South America. From the gleaming skyscrapers and high-speed freeways of its capital, Santiago, surrounded by the Andes and Coast mountain ranges, to the world’s driest desert, lush forested expanses and spectacular arrays of fjords and glaciers, it is a country as diverse as it is engaging. Those travelling in Chile can savour exquisite seafood from its coastal waters, fine Chilean wines, and the traditional hospitality of its people. Major highlights include the exhilarating mountainous scenery in Torres del Paine National Park and thermal springs in the country’s volcanic ‘ring of fire’, as well as historic sites such as the 12th-century Pukará de Quitor fortress, and the houses of Nobel prize-winning poet Pablo Neruda. And Chile’s vast open spaces offer myriad opportunities for outdoor activities, from trekking and horseback riding to rafting and diving.
Santiago is an emerging city, whilst Buenos Aires has long been a busy metropolis. Both offer historical buildings to admire, a local gastronomy scene to savour and sensuous dances to learn.
